Fire Department offering free glow sticks

Halloween night will bring out thousands of kids dressed up in all sorts of costumes and because of that Las Cruces Police is urging safety.

Police Spokesperson Dan Tujillo said costumes can sometimes be dark and hard to see at night that's why the fire department has stepped in to provide glow stick for all young trick-or-treaters.

"The fire department will give one glow stick to each kid and they can wrap it around their neck or wrap it around a costume to provide some extra visibility," Trujillo said.

Parents said safety is concern so they are taking precautions to make it a fun night.

"Maybe get a trick-or-treat bucket that glows," said Priscilla Adame, a parent of the 3-year-old.

Her daughter will be dressed up as Medusa and with this being her second halloween her daughter won't leave her side.

"I always keep her with me and I always have a hand on her," Adame said. "She'll never go up to the door by herself when she goes trick-or-treating."

Adame said she also plans on checkin the candy when they get home.

Glow sticks will be available at all city fire stations starting at 10 a.m.
