Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of robbing a downtown Las Cruces convenience store Monday morning.

George Trujillo, 26, of the 500 block of north Mesquite Street, is charged with one count each of robbery and aggravated assault.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery at the Pic Quik store at 127 E. Amador Ave. Officers learned that the suspect placed a black handgun on the store counter, and demanded cigarettes and cash from the clerk.

The man then left and was last seen heading north and east from the store.

One of the LCPD officers dispatched to the call spotted a man, later identified as Trujillo, running near Mesquite Street. Officers established a perimeter and subsequently located Trujillo.

After obtaining a warrant to search Trujillo’s home, detectives located a black airsoft gun Trujillo is believed to have used to commit the robbery. Also located were the cigarettes and cash he stole from the store.

Trujillo was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
