Las Cruces mother accused of drunk driving with infant son in car
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A Las Cruces mother accused of driving while intoxicated with her 22-month-old son in the car Saturday night has been charged with child abuse and other violations.
Kayla L. Christman, 24, is charged with intentional child abuse, aggravated driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, no driver’s license, no insurance, expired registration plate and operating a vehicle without required headlamps.
Police said Christman was driving on Solano Drive at around 9 p.m. Saturday with a broken headlight and when pulled over, she appeared to be drunk.
They said Christman had her 22-month-old son in a car seat in the backseat of the car.
Christman was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
