A Las Cruces man suspected of stealing a handgun from a Border Patrol agent’s vehicle was arrested Wednesday and is now also accused raping three children under the age of 13.
Jaime A. Moore, 22, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on charges of aggravated burglary, theft of a credit card and negligent use of a weapon. On Thursday, Dec. 5, Las Cruces Police charged Moore with five counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor, seven counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of criminal solicitation.
The charges stem from two separate cases investigated by the Las Cruces Police Department.
The burglary, theft and weapon charges are related to the Sept. 5 burglary of a Border Patrol Agent’s vehicle on the 500 block of Canyon Point Road. Las Cruces Police learned that the agent’s badge, Glock 27 handgun, credit card and other valuables were stolen from his vehicle.
On Oct. 31, Las Cruces Police investigated a report of gunfire inside a home on the 1800 block of Rentfrow Avenue. No injuries were reported and detectives said that Moore fired the shots inside his own home and then allegedly attempted to deceive investigators.
Detectives recovered the stolen Glock from Moore’s bedroom and said that he had already used the Border Patrol agent’s credit card at a local convenience store.
The rape charges are related to allegations made by the mother of three children who had allowed Moore to live in her home. Las Cruces Police detectives investigated the allegations and said that on several occasions, dating back to February 2012, Moore sexually assaulted the three children who are all under the age of 13.
Moore is also accused of forcing the young children to watch pornographic movies and other explicit sexual activities.
Moore, already in custody at the Dona Ana County Detention Center, was served today with an arrest warrant on the new charges and is being held on a cash-only bond set at $50,000.
