A Las Cruces man has been arrested after a multi-agency investigation discovered literally thousands of images of child pornography on computers and other electronic media devices in his home.
William A. “Bill” Ege, 50, of the 3700 block of Jade Avenue, is charged with federal counts of receiving child pornography and possession of child pornography. Ege is being held on federal charges at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
Detectives from the Las Cruces Police Department and agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement collaborated with attorneys from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Dona Ana County District Attorney’s Office to investigate Ege after a resident of his home was arrested Nov. 5 by Las Cruces Police. That arrest was part of a separate investigation that was conducted last week by LCPD.
On Friday, Nov. 6, investigators obtained a warrant to search Ege’s home where they uncovered numerous sexually explicit images of children. The images were stored on personal computers, memory sticks, cell phones and other electronic storage devices.
Investigators also learned that Ege took and stored numerous photos of children in public places such as parks, in his neighborhood, and at other locations in or around Las Cruces.
When questioned, Ege told detectives that he is addicted to child pornography.
The multi-agency investigation into Ege is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
Anyone with additional information or knowledge of Ege’s activities is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 526-8000 or outside the Las Cruces area at 1-800-897-2746.
