Las Cruces grandmother sentenced in connection with pit bull mauling
Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — A Las Cruces woman admitted in court Friday that she owned a pit bull that mauled and killed her baby granddaughter.
53 year-old Letecia Mesa pleaded guilty to a charge of owning a dangerous dog, which is a third degree felony.
She will not face jail time. Rather Mesa was sentenced to three years probation.
15 month-old Jasilyn Mesa was attacked by the dog last year and died at the hospital. Police say the pit bull had previously showed signs of aggression.
