LAS CRUCES— Qwest communications customers experienced some technical problems early Tuesday after the emergency phone system was unavailable, the second time in two weeks.

The emergency 911 phone system for Las Cruces and Doña Ana County underwent some technical problems for three hours early Tuesday morning, and only cell phone users in the area were able to call the emergency number. The Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority dispatchers were assigned to the New Mexico State Police headquarters in Las Cruces where calls were received.

Service was fully restored to landlines after 3 a.m., and the non-emergency line was functioning after 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Representatives from Qwest have said the loss of service is due to a routing from a configuration that was modified during the previous outage on December 14.

Residents of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County are asked to call MVRDA's non-emergency phone number at 575-526-0795 or New Mexico State Police at 575-524-6111 in case the 911 number is not working.
