Las Cruces Bishop to announce successor
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Las Cruces first and only bishop will be announcing his successor to the Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces Thursday morning.
Bishop Ricardo Ramirez will be retiring after celebrating his 75th birthday last year.
Ramirez was appointed by Pope John Paul II more than 30 years ago to lead the newly formed Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces in 1982.
Pope Benedict has chosen a new bishop which Ramirez will announce at a news conference Thursday at 10am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
