A large solar flare was caught on video on Thursday, and while this eruption won't cause any technical disturbances, the sight is still enthralling.
NASA's Solar Dynamic Observatory captured images of a large solar flare. The 90-minute flare caused a “solar prominence,” or a small tendril of plasma, that can be seen in the video.
While the solar flare wasn't strong enough to cause any satellites or other electronic systems to be disturbed. A recent solar flare before Thursday's was stronger, and some experts said some technology would experience brief interruptions.
The flare was not in Earth's direction.
