Honors memory, bravery of fallen EPFD firefighter

Firefighters, families and friends are set to descend on the El Paso Fire Department's training facility Saturday for the annual Kip Hall Memorial Firefighter's Challenge.

Named in honor of EPFD Firefighter Kip Hall, the competition has been hailed by ESPN as  “The Toughest Two Minutes in Sports.”  Hall, who joined EPFD and the Combat Challenge team back in 1998, died in 2007 after a battle against cancer.

The competition will feature local firefighters going head-to-head in several events, as well as firefighting equipment  on display and demonstrations of technique throughout the day.

Snacks, refreshments, t-shirts, and other items will be available for purchase, with the money collected benefitting the El Paso Fire Department Explorers.

Here are the details on Saturday's event, courtesy EPFD:

  • Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 9:00am to 2:00pm
  • Competition begins promptly at 9 a.m.
  • El Paso Fire Training Academy 6800 Delta (Inside Ascarate Park)
