Kennel concerns in Anthony, Texas over pet ordinance
Anthony, TX (KTSM) — The owner of an animal rescue kennel in Anthony, Texas says she was seeking the wrong route when she went to city council seeking help. For 30 years, Margaret Dollar has taken in stray dogs in the community but now she has to stop.
A new town ordinance limits residents from owning more than three pets. Whiteside says that's fine for most pet owners, but not her kennel. She asked for a variance, but was denied, and now she's worried about the consequences.
"The idea is to get them off the streets so they're not breeding, They're not spreading disease. They're not causing more of a problem than we already have to just try to help what I could," said Margaret Dollar.
Dollar has three more weeks to find homes for the dogs she now owns.
