Tributes pour in for the late Ted Kennedy...
Colleagues and rivals are remembering ted Kennedy today.
The long-time Massachusetts senator died Wednesday morning after a bout with brain cancer.
The Kennedy family gathered at the Kennedy family compound Wednesday.
This time to mourn the loss of Edward Kennedy, family patriarch.
Who died Wednesday morning with his family at his side.
In a statement, his children and wife Victoria said, 'we've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever.'
Kennedy lost his 15 month battle with brain cancer, but never gave up his passions, personally and politically.
He threw his political influence behind then-presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who today as President spoke of the impact he had on his life and America.
"Over past several years, I called teddy colleague, counselor and friend," said President Obama.
He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1962, taking over the seat left vacant by brother and newly elected President Jack.
Over the four decades, the senator was at the helm of groundbreaking legislation, including civil rights, equal pay for women, and health care.
A liberal lion and respected rival.
So many of his foes embrace him, because they know he made them bigger, said Vice President Joe Biden.
He was the ninth child of Joseph and Rose Kennedy, the baby of the family who grew into the role of patriarch, following the deaths of his oldest brothers.
His personal life was also marked by highs and lows.
In 1969 a car accident at Chappaquiddick killed a young campaign aide, and ended his chances of becoming president.
But it didn't stop Kennedy from becoming one of the longest serving and most effective senators in recent history.
