EL PASO (KTSM) — Judge Oscar Gabaldon may be known to many as a public servant. He presides the 65th children's district court in El Paso County and has been an active advocate for child rights in our community.
What many don't know is that he has been on a waiting list for a kidney donation for a long time.
"he goes to dialysis three times a week and he has to go early in the morning so he can get to work so he's up very early in the morning It's a very trying process for him" Gabaldon’s friend Patricia Reese said.
Patricia Reese the wife of Galbadon's long life friend was the answer to his hopes. She decided to take the compatibility exams and it turned out she was the perfect donor.
"when I think about him just having to go through that on and on and on when I can step up and stop that when I can be instrumental in him being healthy again and feeling better again I couldn't sit back" Reese said.
Patricia admits the procedure won't be simple and her lifestyle might change a bit but the value of saving a life has no comparison.
"the one thing I have to give up is table salt ok so he's going to have a better life and I have to give up table salt I can do that" she added.
But despite her good intentions there's an obstacle: money. Now she's trying to raise the funds to keep her and her family afloat while she recovers and she only has four weeks before the surgery to raise more than four thousand dollars.
You can help contribute to Patricia’s cause by donating money for travel and other expenses that are not covered by medical insurance.
