Juarez Police Woes Continue

Juarez police are on full alert today. It's all because of these signs. The drug cartels posted them calling for the resignation of police chief Roberto Orduno. The signs say a police agent will be killed every 48-hours if their demand isn't met.
The mayor of Juarez, Jose Reyes Ferriz, says he stands behind Orduno and insists the department will not change the way it operates.
Just this week, suspected cartel hit men ambushed 4-officers, including the chief's right-hand man. Sacramento Perez, the second in command of the Juarez Police, was gunned down Tuesday while driving in his unit. The incident happened at a Juarez intersection near the U.S. consulate. The Mayor is asking State Police to find out who released internal information about which vehicle Perez was riding in. The Mayor says Perez routinely used different vehicles to protect himself. Two other agents were also killed in the attack.
About 50-officers have been killed in the past year in attacks blamed on drug gangs trying to consolidate territory. Many officers have quit in fear for their lives, often after their names appeared on cartel hit lists left in public places.
