EL PASO - Dalila Hortado has been unemployed for a year. Like more than a dozen other people, she was searching for a job at workforce solutions.
"I'm applying for retail because I hope it's easier," she said.
You would think it would be easier to find a job the closer it gets to the holidays, but many of these people told us that's not the case.
"There are jobs out there. It's just that there's so many people applying for them it's just really hard to compete," Juan Quiroga said.
Quiroga has been unemployed for a year.
"It's been a little tough because I went from making like a grand every paycheck to making just about 200 bucks on unemployment, so it really wasn't all that great," he said.
As of today there are about 1,300 local jobs available according to workforce solutions. We're also told an upcoming job fair in November will offer details on 4,000 open jobs, but not all are local or permanent positions. So while we're told jobs are out there, people say they are still having a hard time finding a year-round paycheck in a steady field.
"Seeing a little more on the jobs during the holidays, but it's more in the retail customer service type stuff," Quiroga said.
The upcoming job fair will be held on November 10th at the El Paso Convention Center.
