Jet engine to power El Paso power plant
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Jet engine technology is being now being used to run El Paso's oldest power plant.
El Paso Electric introduced the Rio Grande 9 Generating Unit, which will provide electricity for approximately 40,000 homes.
The state of the art jet engine technology uses natural gas fuel to operate and it uses less than one-third the water per megawatt than conventional steam engines.
It's all part of a $900 million generation construction program that will happen over the next 9 years.
