Things are really heated now that Pastor Tom Brown has turned in all three petitions in his effort to recall the mayor and two city representatives.

The movement started after Mayor John Cook and Representatives Steve Ortega and Susie Byrd voted to restore health benefits for gay and domestic partners of city employees after the public voted against it. More than 15,000 signatures have been collected by Pastor Tom Brown and his supporters to recall Mayor John Cook and Representatives Susie Byrd and Steve Ortega.

"They violated our constitutional right which is the right to vote and have our vote be respected."

Mayor Cook says the language on the ballot was confusing, and the issue could have been resolved long ago by making the message clearer.

"If that's what their goal was is that they wanted to make sure that fornicators and homosexuals did not get health care benefits then just say it that way and then see how the people of El Paso vote for it."

Representative Ortega says he respects the recall process and is confident in his decision.

"Well over 100 city affiliated employees or retirees were going to have their benefits lost based on the sloppy language that tom brown submitted I felt like that was an injustice on top of his stance on homosexuality so I don't regret my vote one bit."

The estimated cost for recall elections are $900,000 to $2,000,000.
The mayor doesn't want taxpayers to take the hit but pastor brown says it doesn't have to be so expensive.

"It doesn't have to cost the people anything, all the three people have to do is now resign and if they resign they leave with at least some dignity and show respect to the votes of el paso."

Because a recall election is a lengthy process, it may only take off 8 to 10 months of the city leader's time in office. But recall supporters say it's a matter of principle.

"We would be satisfied if we took back one day. The thing is not how many days we're taking the thing is learn a lesson you want to run for city council."

Jesus would sent all the gay people to hell.
That is why there is a heaven and hell. If you sin you go to hell if you repent then you go to heaven. Isn't that what religion is all about good and evil? If men have sex with each other
and women have sex with each other that is evil
and against the laws of nature simple as that.

Dictator Cook made me laugh when he said the Demonstrators were NOT being "Christian" because of the way they were doing things...HA, HA, HA. The Commie/Kaddafy/Dictator violated our Constitutional Rights...he no longer has any standing in our El Paso Community or as a true American citizen. I say, take all of those "Sexually Challenged" people (whose brains were not properly encoded prior to birth) back to your home town. Don't act like Kaddafy, leave El Paso, and give up your office.

In a bad economy, what in the world are we even thinking about a recall election??? And of course, that's not the only issue. Why are we treating gay/lesbian members of the community as if they are not people?? Tom Brown has a right to his own opinion, but IMHO he doesn't have the right to waste our money! Maybe he should fund the recall election, I'm sure he could afford it.

I would like to know who is paying for the appeals Mayor Cook is filing? Mayor Cook or
the tax payers?

Just like the Mayor to use the word FORNICATORS AND HOMOSEXUAL ,he wants to bring it down to the gutter, the Voters want their vote to COUNT, that is what the Democrats are alway saying every election Cycle

You're costing taxpayers anywhere between 900K and 2M for your agenda Brown. If your flock (sheep) could speak/think for themselves instead of thru your sock puppet hand they would realize that our City Leaders did exactly what we elected them to do. I don't expect our City Leaders to resign, it's you and your agenda that's gonna have us all paying out the knot for your guilty conscience and those skeletons in your closet Brown. Doing God's work huh? Enjoy your pricey material possessions clown.

Mayor Crook should resign and the city will save that money.

All Mayor Cook, Byrd and Ortega need to do is resign and take the honorable way out. But obviously they do not know the meaning of honor looking out for their own egotistical, self-centered interests and not the will of the people.

All they have to do is extrapolate the amount of signatures turned in on the recall petitions and do the math. The outcome of an actual recall election regardless of the cost is obvious. The bottom line is resign!

I support the Mayor on this one! Shame on you Tom Brown, I wonder "What Would Jesus Do" be kind to others or treat Gay and Lesbians in a Tom Brown manner. From this video it looks like Tom Brown supporters are ready to throw stones and crucify the mayor, gay, and lesbians. Think people! Someday we will look back at this and say "hey remember when gay people weren't treated equally for being gay" guess history does repeat itself when you got dummy humans.
