Insurance Companies To Cover Breast Pumps, Lactation Specialists
When it comes to new babies, doctors say breast is best. There are many health benefits to breast feeding.
Now the federal government is stepping in to make it easier for new moms.
New regulations require insurance companies to cover the costs of breast pumps and lactation specialists.
It's a goal that might get a little help from the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.
"It's definitely a change for the better. Insurance companies are still working out the details and trying align vendors and lactation services and how they're going to meet that need for these mothers," said Lactation Specialist Wendi Goodson-Celerin.
Taxpayers will be footing the bill for the rental fee to get hospital grade breast pumps.
Some insurers are offering to pay for lighter, less expensive consumer models.
While many are in favor of the changes put in place by the Affordable Care Act, there is heated dispute over what impact the health care law will have over the long term.
