Funding included in 2012 Quality of Life Bonds

Improvements are set for three libraries and two new bookmobiles, funded by the 2012 Quality of Life bonds approved by voters.

Half a million dollars is being set aside just for materials to improve both the book collections and digital collections.

At the Irving Schwartz Branch library, 1865 Dean Martin Dr., a $2.2 million expansion will include a 5,000 square-foot addition for a computer lab and meeting room space, expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

The Richard Burges branch, 9600 Dyer St., is the busiest, and will see $1.4 million in upgrades, including the renovation of the 2,200 square-foot building. The library will see new restrooms and a meeting room. This project is set for completion in August of 2016.

The Ysleta Branch Library, 9321 Alameda Ave., will get parking lot updates to the tune of $425,000.

The bonds will also provide for the creation of two more bookmobiles, or buses filled with books that currently frequent more than 25 locations throughout the City.
