It cost $141 million to build the three connectors, but if you factored in the amount of gas money drivers used to circumnavigate the area, it would probably be considerably more.

"Sometimes you miss the exits like the other day we were going to Horizon City and we missed the right turn to we had to get on Pellicano," said driver, Jose Urrieta.

Many drivers are thankful the two years of construction is over early and under budget.

"I know it's a drag to deal with the orange barrels," said County Judge Veronica Escobar.

The project is far from complete though, there are still five more connections to go.  The first one is scheduled to begin in February 2013.  The entire project is scheduled for completion in about two years.
They got the connectors the public uses most, out of the way first.

"I have been very excited about that opening of the this project on I10, said Urrieta. "But what's the use? We're all excited, but what's the use if the world is ending on Friday? ".

Once again I felt insulted by County Judge Veronica Escobar. First because she refers to her constituents as folks and secondly because she apparently thinks we are a bunch of dumb hicks that can't see the need for the Americas Interchange. That is was happens to politicians when they get so full of themsleves that they speak without thinking and they can't immagine that anyone would be offended by their choice of words.
