EL PASO - The right lane on I-10 between Porfirio Diaz and west of Schuster will be closed for the next week as construction crews enter the demolition phase of the traffic project.

The lane will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through February 18. The left lane on Main St., the street that leads from the westbound Porfirio Diaz ramp, is closed from Porfirio Diaz St. to Heisig Ave. and will remain so until the entire project is complete.

The $8 million initiative is designed to ease congestion at the often crowded intersection. An extra exit lane and ramp will be added to deposit drivers directly into campus.

The project should take about 14 months.

There needs to be a turning lane installed at the outlet mall. It should run all the way from I-10 to the entrance. What a bottle neck area for shoppers and people just trying to get down the road. This is a economic boom to El Paso's economy having the outlet mall so we should assist in traffic control for the shopping consumers. More paying customers mean more tax revenues for our city and state.
