TUCSON, AZ - The husband of Representative Gabrielle Giffords says his wife is standing with assistance and she is trying to speak.
Mark Kelly told reporters during a news conference this morning at University Medical Center in Tucson that he is "extremely hopeful" that she will make a full recovery.
"I feel she's made some attempts. She has a treacheostomy. I also feel that intellectually, she knows that's there. She understands what that means. But, you know, she in my mind she's made some attempts."
Kelly says Congresswoman Giffords will be moved tomorrow to Tirr Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for extensive rehabilitation.
"She can bear her own weight, which is a big step. You know.. just speaking for the doctors here, I think she's made a remarkable recovery."
A gunman shot Giffords and 18 others January 8th as she met with constituents outside a grocery store in Tucson.
All the survivors have been released from hospitals, except Giffords.
