EL PASO — More than 650 people filled the lines on Saturday afternoon for their annual "Passport Day."
Once a year The El Paso Passport Agency offers discounted passports.
Even though many El Pasoans stood in line for hours, most say it was all worth it.
It's a turnout that not even The El Paso Passport Agency was expecting.
"Last year when we did this, our first day we had 160 people show up. This year within the first half an hour I think those 160 people showed up,” said director Santiago Burciaga.
The El Paso Passport Agency also wants to help those who are unable to make an appointment during their work week.
"It's a great opportunity for the folks that you know Monday through Friday, and are busy that can't make it to obtain to come and obtain their passport or apply for their passport on a Saturday,” said Burciaga.
"I have a lot of family in Mexico and I like to go and visit them, so this will be cheaper and easier for me to go across the border,” said El Pasoan Kloe Hiplotito.
El Pasoan Alec Wiener says the cold temperatures were tough to handle.
"It's pretty cold but, actually I think I should have brought some more warmth with me,” said Wiener.
Wiener is planning a trip when the weather gets warmer, and having a passport is a must.
"This summer I'm going to go on a cruise over in Europe. I need the passport,” said Wiener.
On average, the people who registered on Saturday saved about 60 dollars.
