The House has passed a bill allowing taxpayers to write off donations to Haiti when they file their 2009 tax returns.

Under the current law, donations would have to be filed with 2010 tax returns.

The newly advanced bill allows donations made by the end of February to be deducted from 2009 returns.

The bill passed on a voice vote with no opposition.

A similar law was enacted in 2005 for donations to victims of the Indian ocean tsunami which happened in December 2004.
