EL PASO - Today dozens of people observed Holocaust Remembrance Day in Downtown El Paso.
"Were celebrating those people that lived, and we're mourning those people who died," Beth Lipson said.
Lipson organized the Holocaust commemoration at the Holocaust Museum in Downtown El Paso.
"We're hoping to find justice and not revenge in the things that are happening today, that we can translate from the Holocaust to our everyday present lives," she said.
There were nine survivors of the Holocaust at the commemoration. One of them got up in front of the audience and spoke about the time he and other survivors lived through.
"They came out of a horrendous time, a horrendous time and they survived, and they flourished and they had families of their own," Lipson said.
Lipson says Holocaust Remembrance Day isn't just important for the survivors. She says it's the younger generations of people that need to be reminded of the genocide that happened.
"We don't want to forget. I feel like if we forget, history will just repeat itself and it will happen again," she said.
