A fundraiser for the El Paso Holocaust Museum couldn't have come at a better time because of the increase in hate groups, a spokesperson said.
The 5th annual Tour de Tolerance was this weekend and benefitted the museum. They say it's their biggest fundraising event. They're hoping to have raised more than last year: $19,000.
The money goes to operating costs and to bring new exhibits to the museum each year. One spokeswoman says keeping the museum open is more important now than ever.
"We're seeing a lot of hate groups sprout up and try to recruit new members, and hopefully when people come through here, they'll realize the lessons of the Holocaust and teach that to the next generation," said Maribel Villalva.
The Tour de Tolerance includes a 100-, 50-, and 10-kilometer ride, as well as a 5-kilometer run and walk.
