Historic Lincoln Center will not be demolished
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The deadline to save the historic Lincoln Center has come and gone but it appears it won't be torn down anytime soon.
Ted Houghton, the Chair of the Texas Transportation Commission decided that TX-Dot will keep ownership for at least another year.
As we reported, El Paso Community College was in talks with the Lincoln Center Conservation Committee to take the building over, but the deadline to make that happen was today and if it wasn't met plans were to tear it down.
Today during El Paso City Council's meeting a number of people stood up to ask council to save the center.
City Rep. Eddie Holguin says the city needs to re-acquire property and make use of it.
He will put an item on next weeks agenda.
