A hiker wound up in the hospital after falling 30-feet down a steep Transmountain trail.

It took crews several hours this afternoon to rescue the hiker.

He's in the hospital tonight with a head injury and possibly a dislocated shoulder.

But rescue teams say he should be ok.

It was a tedious process as crews carried the hiker about a mile down the steep mountain on a stretcher.

Investigators say the 21-year-old and two friends strayed from the trail as they started to hike back down that's when the man slipped and fell. His friends called 911.

Medical teams made their way to the hurt hiker and waited for rescuers to bring him down to a waiting ambulance.

Experts advise hikers to stay on the trail, carry a cell phone and take extra food and water.
