EL PASO, TX - An arsonist in the city could end up costing you money.

Homes being built in Far East El Paso were torched over the weekend, and along with the cost to taxpayers to find the arsonist it's going to take money to re-build the homes. Home buyers could pay that cost.

Ray Adauto is the Executive Vice President of the El Paso Association of Builders. He says most home builders have insurance, but there are some costs that can't be re-paid. For example, he says the money paid to construction workers who actually build the homes.

"Time is money anyway that you look at it. It's definitely a tough thing because you do have people that are waiting, and money gets more expensive everyday that you're held off from closing."

The fire department is still working to find the arsonist, and Adauto says he's confident they will do so. In the meantime he says construction site vandalism peaks at this time of year so he hopes police find the arsonist before a builder does.

"If I caught somebody on my property I probably wouldn't make the call to the PD until a little later."

If you know anything about this fire, you're asked to call Crimestoppers of El Paso at 566-8477.

Maybe the El Paso city admin should reconsider the cuts being made to public safety. The Fire Dept, and by default the Fire Prevention Division, the very investigators you are hoping will catch the arsonists, have had their budgets slashed... now the arson dog program is done, and the investigators have to pick up the slack where other programs have been cut and therefore have less time to spend investigating. Call up the City Manager and complain about her managing!
