SOCORRO- Heisman Trophy winner and former Dallas Cowboy Herschel Walker will visit Montwood Middle School tomorrow afternoon.

Walker will be participating in the school’s Olweus Bullying Prevention Program kickoff event. A three-time collegiate All-American, Walker will share his personal story of being a victim of bullying growing up and encourage students to recognize and put a stop to bullying in their school and community.

“This is a great opportunity for students to hear from a legendary athlete how bullying can impact someone, and how they personally can help Stop Bullying,” said Pat O’Neill, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services.

Campuses across the District are starting the year with Stop Bullying rallies and events surrounding the districtwide Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. At the District level, trained mentors work with schools and parents to educate and support anti-bullying efforts. As a resource for parents and students alike, the District has launched the Stop Bullying! Web page, www.sisd.net/stopbullying.
