Elementary kids hoping to kick off the start of a new year at a brand new school will have to wait even longer.
We first told you about William C. Herrera Elementary school last week and how construction and a small fire are the reasons it will not be ready for the first day of classes next Monday.
The El Paso Independent School District spokeswoman says plans have already been made so students can be temporarily placed at Bond, Kohlberg and Roberts Elementary schools.
District leaders say that was the best option and decided against a partial opening at Herrera.
"We did not want to have the children there while the construction was going on. It's also less disruptive if there's noise or other factors. It's a better learning environment for the kids to be at a school that has already been completed," said spokeswoman Berenice Zubia.
Bus transportation will be provided for the students.
They should be able to move into the new school by mid-September.
In the meantime, the district is holding a community meeting Monday evening at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria of Roberts Elementary in West El Paso.
The district will be answering parents' questions and concerns.
