Help Report Cases of Suspected Abuse
Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - 4:37pm

Each year, the Aging and Long-Term Services Department Adult Protective Services Division receives and investigates thousands of reports of suspected adult abuse, neglect or exploitation. People interested and committed to preventing abuse will be meeting for the 21st Annual United New Mexicans against Adult Abuse Conference in Albuquerque on October 24th and 25th.

Aging and Long-Term Services Cabinet Secretary Gino Rinaldi will be introducing keynote speaker Bob Blancato.

Blancato is the National Coordinator of the Elder Justice Coalition, a non-partisan, 680-member organization.

He also served as President of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse.

“Too often, abuse of adults goes unreported. If anyone suspects an adult is being abused, it’s important that they take action, not just turn away and ignore it,” said Aging and Long-Term Services Cabinet Secretary Gino Rinaldi.

New Mexicans can report suspected cases of abuse by dialing 1-866-654-3219 at any time of the day.

This year’s Adult Abuse Prevention Conference will be held at the Albuquerque Sheraton Airport Hotel, 2910 Yale Blvd SE.

It will include a wide range of workshops including topics such as hoarding, substance abuse in the older population and overcoming social isolation.
