This past week's rain left quite a mess at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

28 graves or headstones were damaged over the weekend; most sunk into the soft ground.

Crews spent the day repairing the damage and hope to have all the graves and headstones repaired by some time tomorrow.

It's a problem the cemetery often sees during heavy rains, at least since grass was replaced by sand a couple of years ago.

During storms last September, more than a thousand graves and headstones were damaged.

I'm so tired of hearing how if grass was placed in the cemetery, it wouldn't be cost effective because of the cost of the water. However, how hypocritical is that if the city can consider placing a water park where Cohen Stadium is. Oh! Not to mention that there's supposedly a drought going on.
