President & Congress fight over health care reform...

A new NBC News poll finds the American public is now rejecting the so called "public option" that was once a key element of the Obama health care initiative.

The President called it just one sliver of health care reform, but aides say Mr. Obama is still fighting for the public option, government insurance, and so is Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

"We continue to support the public option that will help lower costs, give American consumers more choice and keep private insurers honest," she told an audience on Tuesday.

The new poll shows 47% of Americans oppose the public option, while only 43% support it.

Last month 46% supported, while 44% opposed.

Obama aides insist he has not lost on government insurance, and some Democrats on Capitol Hill insist they won't vote for a reform bill without it.
