Groundbreaking for Reyes school is tomorrow
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Congressman Silvestre & Carolina Reyes School is set for Thursday, July 11th at 10 a.m.
The school site is in the Cimarron Subdivision in northwest El Paso.
The school will house pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students.
The ceremony will feature commemorations of the Silvestre Reyes' legacy both in El Paso and Washington, D.C.
Reyes served in the U.S. Congress for eight terms after retiring from the U.S. Border Patrol as the first Hispanic Sector Chief.
Carolina Reyes was the first Hispanic to be elected as President of the Congressional Club, a non-partisan organization for congressional, Supreme Court and President's Cabinet spouses.
They are both Canutillo High School graduates.
The Reyes School will be built using funds from the 2006 and 2011 bond programs that were approved by voters in the district.
Construction will last about 18 months and classes are expected to begin in the spring of 2015.
