Governor to sign abortion bill into law
AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Rick Perry is planning to sign a controversial abortion bill into law Thursday.
The Governor's Office released a statement saying a signing ceremony will be held in the morning.
The bill bans abortions past 20 weeks of gestation, among several other new restrictions.
The legislation gained national attention after Democratic State Senator Wendy Davis filibustered it last month.
It was reintroduced in the state legislature earlier this month and passed both chambers.
