El Paso, TX (KTSM) — If you've noticed your co-workers and friends looking a little scruffy around the office lately, it might not be that they didn't realize the playoffs are over or that they forgot to shave. November marks the beginning of a month-long men's health push known as "Movember," where men are encouraged to grow mustaches to bring awareness and raise funds to combat prostate and testicular cancer and other men's mental health challenges.
The idea behind Movember is that participants grow their facial hair for the entire 30-days in November, asking their friends, family and co-workers to donate towards their facial hair growth efforts.
Movember began in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 and has since grown in popularity, inspiring more than 3 million participants across 21 countries annually. In 2012, the Movember movement raised $147 million towards combating prostate and testicular cancer.
If you are interested in participating or fundraising towards to Movember cause, you can register on the Movember website.
