Dr. Maya Angelou, one of the most well-known and influential voices of our time, will be the Featured Speaker at El Paso Children’s Hospital’s 2014 Milagro Gala presented by Casa Ford Lincoln Nissan on March 7th at the El Paso Convention Center.

Dr. Angelou is a celebrated poet, memoirist, novelist, education, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker, and civil rights activist. Her book, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, has received international acclaim and became an enormously popular success.

Dr. Angelou has served on two presidential committees, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Arts in 2000, the Lincoln Medal in 2008, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011, and has received 3 Grammy Awards. She recited her poem "On the Pulse of Morning" at the 1993 inauguration of President Bill Clinton, and "We All Rise" at the 2008 inauguration of President Barack Obama. She has received over 30 honorary degrees and is Reynolds Professor of the American Studies at Wake Forest University.

Tickets to the 2014 Milagro Gala are $150. Tickets may be purchased through the University Medical Center Foundation at (915) 521-7229. All proceeds from the Milagro Gala support sick and injured children at El Paso Children's Hospital, and support the expansion of pediatric programs and needed medical equipment.
