A group of El Pasoans will be given special treatment before the final UTEP home game this Saturday. The El Paso region of Ability Connection Texas will be hosting their first Abilities in Action Field Day Saturday, November 16, 2013.

The program, in conjunction with UTEP Athletics and UTEP’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) gives local special needs children of all abilities the opportunity to come out and have their hand at field activities out on the Sun Bowl during the afternoon. Children and their families will receive special treatment as they are lead on a VIP tour of the Larry Durham Center and Sun Bowl Stadium.

The children will also have a chance to participate in physical education activities on the field followed by food festivities, a team huddle with Coach Kugler and UTEP Football and sign decoration fun for that evenings game. All children will then receive free tickets for themselves and participating family members to the FIU vs. UTEP game Saturday night.

The Abilities in Action field day was designed by Ability Connection Texas specifically for children with disabilities and was developed as a means to provide physical education opportunities for school-aged children with disabilities. Children and their families will have the opportunity to participate in a fun and physical experience that supports the mission of Ability Connection: To provide a full range of services for people with physical and intellectual disabilities as they strive to achieve their highest level of independence.

The field day will be hosted at The UTEP Sun Bowl Field and Larry K. Durham Center Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Admission to the event is free for invited children.

Ability Connection Texas is a nonprofit organization that has been serving Texans with disabilities for over 60 years. The organization opened a regional office in El Paso in 2011.
