El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The Annual Celebration of Lights holiday lighting ceremony presented by evolve Federal Credit Union will kick off Saturday night with the Holiday Parade of Lights and Cleveland Square Tree Lighting.
The official lighting display has found a new home in downtown El Paso for the next two years at Cleveland Square Park while the San Jacinto Plaza is undergoing renovations.
The annual event has been a downtown El Paso tradition since 1936. Entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m. with the 1st Armored Division Band from Fort Bliss.
The living Christmas tree at San Jacinto Plaza was donated by Mrs. Corrine Boyce in 1998 in memory of her late husband Charles (Chuck) Boyce. This year, due to the construction, the tree will be an artificial installation at
Cleveland Square. Cleveland Square Park has over 30,000 lights that surround the park area this year. The lighting of the Christmas tree is expected at about 5:50 p.m. with the Holiday Lights Parade following at 5:55 p.m.
The Holiday Lights parade will follow abbreviated path this year around downtown El Paso.
The entire downtown event will culminate with a fireworks presentation at approximately 7:15 p.m.
