If you're interested in becoming a firefighter, this may be music to your ears; New Mexico is advertising for firefighters.
If this coming fire season is anything like last year's, the Gila National Forest wants to be prepared. It's recruiting firefighting crews to work on a call-when-needed basis. We're told the firefighters will get all the necessary training, supervision and equipment.
To become a SWFF crew member or assist with other fire support positions such as timekeeper, driver, Public Information Officer, etc., interested individuals must attend at least one of the two scheduled information meetings:
• January 9, 2012, 6:00 p.m., in Silver City at the Grant County Convention Center, 3031 U.S. Highway 180 East
• January 17, 2012, 6:00 p.m., in Silver City at the Grant County Convention Center, 3031 U.S. Highway 180 East
A 2012 SWFF application packet, a training schedule, and information on the physical requirements will be provided at all scheduled meetings.
For additional information, please contact Forest Training Coordinator Glenda Womack at the Supervisor's Office in Silver City at 575.388.8362. Forest office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
