HOUSTON - Gabrielle Giffords continues to amaze even her caretakers.
Neurosurgeon Michael Lemole says she is standing with help from doctors, scrolling through an I-pad, even looking out her hospital window.
"These are all fantastic advancements forward, they do indicate higher cognitive function but I do want to caution everyone that she has a long road ahead of her."
A road that tomorrow will take her to the renowned Texas Institute of Rehabilitation and Research at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
"It has got an outstanding world class reputation. The doctors specialize in penetrating head injuries like Gabby is dealing with."
Gifford's husband Mark Kelly says he considered several facilities but in the end Houston made the most sense for their family. It is closer to his children and his job as an astronaut at Johnson Space Center.
"It's going to let me be there by her side as much as possible, every single day."
But Kelly also made a bold promise. His wife would soon be back in Tucson, AZ.
"She'll be walking, talking, and in two months you'll see her walking through the front door of this building."
As Giffords' recovery moves forward, so does the investigation into accused gunman Jared Loughner.
A federal grand jury has now formally indicted Loughner. His first chance to answer the initial charges will come in a preliminary hearing set for Monday in Phoenix.
