For the past 60 years, the German Air Force has had a presence at Fort Bliss, but that's all about to change. Starting September 30th, the German Air Force command for the U.S. and Canada is moving its operations to Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Germany already has a flight training center at Holloman. The German Air Force says U.S. base realignment changes prompted the move. Several hundred military personnel will be affected. Germany has had a presence at Fort Bliss since 1956, just 11 years after the end of World War II.

This is a sad day for El Paso. Unfortunately there are ceratin elements withing our GREAT city that don't see the eventual departure of the German Air Force as a bad thing for El Paso. I do. They not only trained here, they lived here, spent their hard earned money here and gave back much more than what they received. They are GREAT humanitarians and and I will miss their friendly and happy nature. May God Bless them and keep them safe.
