LAS CRUCES - Gas prices are on the rise nationally and New Mexico residents are feeling the increase.

The average gas price in Las Cruces is $3.39. In the state, a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.27 on Monday.

According to GasBuddy, gas in New Mexico was $3.22 a week ago. The five cent increase might not seem like a lot, but in Las Cruces gas has gone up 12 cents in the last seven days.

New Mexico residents said they are learning to adapt to the higher prices.

"I don't like it, but it's just something that we all have to do and I try not to think about it because we all need to put gas in our cars," said Jenn Gaides.

New Mexican Tyler Skeen said he has considered trading in his truck for a more fuel efficient vehicle.

"The high prices make me want to get another vehicle, but I have to use this because I have loads to haul and I got to have a truck."

The oil price information service says gasoline could be at $4.25 by the end of April.
