El Paso County Attorney Jose Rodriguez is proposing a gang injunction against the Bloods gang in Northeast El Paso.
Two safety zones will be designated as part of the proposal:
The first is the Devil's Triangle area, bounded by Gateway North, Hondo Pass and Dyer Street. The second is known as the "Patriot Safety Zone," which is located north of Transmountain between Gateway North and McCombs.
Gang members will be barred from gathering anywhere in El Paso County, or even talking on cell phones in public places. Greater penalties would be handed down for crimes committed in the aforementioned neighborhoods.
The 27 members of the Bloods gang are accused of committing aggravated assaults, burglaries, robberies and selling drugs. The El Paso Police Department says in the last four years, the gang is responsible for over a hundred crimes.
Police Chief Greg Allen says the injunction would give his officers more legal tools to combat gang activity.
