Funeral services were held Monday for one the teenagers found dead at Quemado Lake in early July.

Seth Stephenson, 16, of Chaparral, New Mexico was laid to rest at the Apache Creek Deaf and Youth Ranch where he spent his summers volunteering.

"He loved coming here as a kid and he loved playing at the creek," said Pastor Craig Lang.

Stephenson and Noah Hooper, 15, were reported missing during a trip to Quemado Lake while volunteering at the camp.

After a three day search on land and with divers in the lake, both bodies were recovered.

"When I found out I was pretty much devastated," said Victor Trujillo, from Socorro, Texas. "I couldn't sleep that night."

During his time helping at the camp Stephenson made many friends with people from all over the region.

His loved ones described him as having an infectious spirit.

"Every year we come to camp he's the first one I look for," Trujillo said.

It was while at the ranch Stephenson discovered a passion for horses and began taking a leadership role with the program.

"He was helping run the horse program," Lang said.

Stephenson's body was laid to rest about a mile away from the camp under a giant pine tree on ranch property.

His casket was carried in a horse-drawn carriage with his favorite horse in tow.

Loved ones said he might not be with them in person but his spirit will live on.

"He is always going to be with you no matter what," Trujillo said.
