EL PASO - The fugitive that sparked a massive manhunt around El Paso County last week remains in critical condition.

Last Thursday, Fernando Lavenant overpowered a deputy who was arresting him and fled in a police car with the deputy's rifle and other equipment. Hours later, officers found and shot the 19-year-old fugitive, sending him to the hospital in critical condition, where he remains tonight.

The assault rifle that Lavenant took from the deputy was recovered by police over the weekend.
