Frustrated parents miss kids' graduations
San Elizario, TX (KDBC) — The weather Friday night forced some frustrated parents to miss their own kids graduations, and now they're demanding answers from the school district. San Elizario was supposed to hold its graduation outside on the school football field, but the lightning and rain forced the ceremony indoors. The problem is, there wasn't enough room to accomodate everyone.
Parents say some dozens of family members weren't allowed into the ceremony. That included Yvette Garzea who was there to watch her brother, Michael.
"I'm so angry, because he's my only brother, and I expected to see him walk across the stage. I've seen people really upset. Some parents are even crying," she said.
"This is a once in a life time experience, a once in a life time deal, and you're not able to see your family member, your son, daughter, step-daughter, step-son graduating, that's horrible, and it's really upsetting," said Patty Garzea, the step-mother of a graduate.
We were not able to reach school district officials for comment tonight.
