Friends and family came as far as Kuwait to come say their last good byes to Jose Gil Hernandez.
The National Guardsman was shot to death in Juarez by gunmen last week.
He was shot 18 times, and so far authorities have no leads.
Today, he was laid to rest with full military honors, including a flag folding ceremony.
Family and friends held hands and cried as the priest led them in prayer.
His mother held onto a cross while she sat feet away from her youngest son.
Soldiers lined up to pay respects to the entire family hugs were exchanged and tears were shed over the life that they say was taken away from them too quickly.
"I just want to thank God for the angel he let me borrow." his mother Guadalupe said.
Last week, we spoke to his family and his brother Rogelio said Jose was one of the most amazing people he had ever met.
"I believe every person that met him, it really changed their lives," his brother Rogelio said.
The 22 years-old, leaves behind his mother, father, two brothers and countless more family members and friends.
