Friends and family mourn a life cut short by a hit and run accident

El Paso, TX — Joe Anthony Hernandez, 19, was killed in a hit and run accident near Lomaland and Gateway around 4:35 on Sunday morning. His body was found in the 13000 block of Lomaland.
On Wednesday night, friends and family gathered for a vigil with feelings of sadness, devastation, and anger.
"We were close.. that's my childhood....He means a lot to me, you know, we have a lot of good memories," said longtime friend Miya Cervantes.
"When I heard it, I started crying. I couldnt stop... He's like a brother to me," said Gustavo Sanz, a longtime friend of Hernandez.
"Whoever had the nerve to leave my cousin to die here and can't come forward... They're out there living their life with their family while my family is grieving, trying to find out who murdered my cousin," said Erica Hernandez, cousin of Joe Hernandez.
Investigators returned to the scene of the accident early on Thursday morning. They are looking for clues to further the ongoing investigation.
As for family and friends, they are all desperate for answers.
"Why did you do that? Just come forward and let us know. Why did you do it? Leave him in the street by himself? That's all I want to know," said Rosa Hernandez, family member of Joe Hernandez.
The El Paso Police Department is asking for the public help with the investigation. Any information regarding the incident can be reported to crime stoppers at 915- 566-TIPS.
